A police officer was shot dead in Kasarani, Nairobi when he responded to a distress call on Thursday morning.

The Kenya Police Spokesman Charles Owino said boda boda operators in Sunton area raised alarm after they were attacked by three armed men.

Two officers on night patrol duties rushed to the scene but the gunmen, who had laid ambush, shot at them killing one of the policemen on the spot.

His colleague was however not injured in the 3.30am attack.

“He was shot on the chest and died on the spot,” said the spokesman.
